The latest from New Vic Borderlines

9th October 2015

The Borderlines team has been out and about this week asking local shoppers about the marketplace. Using the themes from a series of talks about ‘Market Place Exclusion’, Borderlines are making sure that local voices and views are heard and will be used as part of a week of intensive rehearsals, which include community members, leading up to a performance Because you’re worth it? on Wednesday 21 October.

Brendan, Julianna and Pippa have been vox-popping in Newcastle under Lyme and Hanley town centre armed with recording devices, talking to people about their experiences of the marketplace.

People’s responses will be used as soundbites during the performance which also explores people’s actions and reactions to the London riots of 2012; the idea that having the right label, in vogue clothing or products can make buyers feel more valued, in a constantly consumer driven society, and why or how people become excluded from the marketplace.

The event on 21 October includes lunch a talk by artist Dan Thompson #riotcleanup @riotcleanup as well as the performance Because you’re worth it? The performance is FREE to all,  to book a place contact amahmood@newvictheatre.org.uk

The Newcastle Christmas Light Parade is set to look bigger and better than ever! This year the event will be happening on Sunday 29 November at 12.30pm starting from Goose Street Morrisons.

Morrisons have kindly lent Borderlines 20 trolleys which were quickly snapped up by local community groups, including the Scouts, local church groups and youth groups who are going to decorate them inspired by their favourite Christmas carol!

The theme of this year’s parade is Tis the season of goodwill, and with that in mind we are asking for donations of food, wrapping paper, Christmas crackers, boxes of chocolates or gloves/hats/scarves to be given to foodbanks and elderly charities. Donations can be dropped off at the New Vic’s Stephen Joseph Room foyer or collected en-route during the parade.

Our procession of fantastically dressed trolleys will be accompanied by carollers and the Scouts drumming band and of course Santa will be leaving the workshops in the safe hands of the elves to make a visit to this old market town to spread the festive cheer!
