Borderlines to perform at national Holocaust centre

New Vic Borderlines have been invited to perform powerful documentary drama Yizkor at the national Holocaust centre.

Borderlines will be presenting the production to survivors of the Holocaust and their relatives at Beth Shalom in Nottingham on Friday 4 February.

The visit will form part of a tour of schools and colleges currently taking place across the West Midlands.
In the New Vic’s documentary style, Yizkor was written using the testimonies of teenagers who lived during the Holocaust and aims to encourage young people to understand and tackle prejudice.

Written and directed by Sue Moffat, director of award-winning community programme New Vic Borderlines, Yizkor was inspired by Holocaust survivors, Ibi and Waldemar Ginsburg, who worked with Borderlines as part of its Holocaust education programme.

The Borderlines department has already visited Beth Shalom, with actors using the trip as research to work on developing their characters and understanding the historical context of Yizkor.

Sue Moffat said: “To be able to take Yizkor to Beth Shalom will be like bringing the play home. Yizkor was the last thing that Val Ginsburg worked with me on and was created as a dedication to his and Ibi’s determination to play their part in making sure the truth of what happened during the Holocaust was known by future generations. It helped to further their ambition to play their part in creating an inclusive and tolerant world.”
