The New Vic has launched a regional talent search for budding young performers to appear in its production of The Snow Queen.
The award-winning theatre-in-the-round is offering youngsters the opportunity to appear alongside a professional cast in a new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen which runs from Saturday 19 November to Saturday 28 January.
The New Vic is looking for boys and girls aged from 11 to 14 years-old to audition to take part in a Summer School* at the end of which a number will be offered places in the production.
Auditions for the Summer School will take place on Saturday 9 July. Children auditioning will need to be confident performers with strong dance and singing skills. The audition will last around 45 minutes and will involve group activities and following a short dance routine.
Taking place from Tuesday 30 August to Saturday 3 September, the Summer School will look at the story of The Snow Queen, focusing on how to bring characters and scenes to life using drama, dance and music and will also give children the chance to shine in front of some of the industry’s top professionals.
Jill Rezzano, Head of New Vic Education, said: “We are hugely excited about this year’s Christmas production and are looking forward to introducing The Snow Queen to the next generation of children both as audience members and as part of our young company on stage.
“The auditions we are holding will invite young people to take part in drama and dance and movement exercises with a view to them gaining places in our Summer School later this year.”
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 6 July.
