New Vic searches for male performers to join its Community Theatre

25th July 2018

The New Vic is searching for men to join its Community Theatre company, particularly for its forthcoming production of Maxine Peake’s new play, Queens of the Coal Age.

Based on a true story, New Vic and Royal Exchange Theatre co-production, Queens of the Coal Age runs at the theatre-in-the-round from Friday 7 to Saturday 29 September and follows the story of four women who occupy Parkside Colliery over the Easter holidays in 1993 in protest at the fresh wave of pit closures.

The Community Theatre ensemble will play miners at the Parkside Colliery from the Victorian period to the 1990s and will form an integral part of the show.

The theatre-in-the-round is looking for men aged 18+ of any ethnicity and build. Previous experience of performing on stage is not necessary but applicants must be comfortable with performance.

In applying, applicants should understand the commitment to the rehearsal process and the performance schedule which is outlined on the New Vic’s website detailed below.

Anna Poole, New Vic Assistant Director, will be holding introductory sessions on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday8 August from 7pm to 8.30pm at the New Vic, as a chance for interested participants to meet the team and get a feel for the production. Following on from these sessions, an ensemble will be put together.

To express interest in attending the sessions and to be considered for the New Vic’s Community Theatre, please click here to download and complete the application form. For further information contact New Vic Admin on 01782 717954.
