FROM TAP DANCING TO SPRINGWATCH – NEW VIC PRESENTS ECLECTIC SERIES OF ONE NIGHT EVENTS THIS JUNE

14th June 2024

This month the New Vic will be hosting a varied series of one-night events encompassing everything from folk music to tap dance, musical theatre to poetry and even an appearance from a BBC Springwatch presenter.

Accomplished folk musician and two-time Mercury Prize nominee Eliza Carthy MBE, daughter of folk legends Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, will perform at the New Vic on Saturday 22 June. Over her thirty-year career she has cemented herself as one of the most engaging and important folk performers of her generation. She will be supported by performer Jenn Reid, seen in Shane Meadows’ period drama The Gallows Pole, supporting Pulp, and John Cooper Clarke at the 2023/24 Chanel Metiers d’Art show.

Having graced the West End and international stages, The Tap Chaps arrive at the New Vic on Tuesday 25 June with their high energy showcase of classic show numbers with a modern twist. Their percussive feet will have the audience tapping in their seats on this trip down memory lane with routines from 42nd Street to I Got Rhythm and Mr Bojangles.

Zoologist and conservationist Megan McCubbin, as seen on BBC’s Springwatch, will present a thought-provoking evening with Stopping Extinction – An Atlas of Endangered Species on Thursday 27 June. Examining what it takes to save a species from extinction, this celebration of Earth’s spellbinding species also explores how we as individuals can make a difference.

Pulman and Stilgoe: A Couple of Swells, a new show from Liza Pulman – one third of the iconic Fascinating Aida – and musical virtuoso Joe Stilgoe, brings together their respective musical styles for a show full of panache, on Friday 28 June. Liza’s exquisite vocals are joined by Joe’s dazzling piano playing as they share songs from the likes of Irving Berlin, Paul McCartney, Al Jolson, Billy Joel, Leonard Bernstein and more.

Always extremely well-received at the New Vic, BAFTA-nominated poet Lemn Sissay OBE makes a return with readings from his book Let the Light Pour In on Saturday 29 June. It’s an unmissable opportunity to see one of Britain’s best and most-loved poets performing this uplifting collection and will also feature a Q&A session followed by a book signing.

Following on from this series of events, in July the fun continues with Sensasian from Tuesday 9 July to Saturday 13 July, which will include performances from Desi Central comedy featuring Sukh Ojla, music and dance in Roshni by the Sonia Sabri Company, magician Ben Hart presenting the Indian-inspired Jadoo and a free family fun afternoon on Saturday 13 July.

Tickets for these one-night events at the New Vic are on sale now and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online at newvictheatre.org.uk.
