LADIES’ DAY CAST ENJOY A DAY AT THE RACES IN PREPARATION FOR SHOW OPENING

13th January 2023

It was hands down a great day out for the cast of the New Vic’s upcoming comedy Ladies’ Day this week as they visited Wolverhampton Racecourse in preparation for the show.

Rehearsals are now well underway for the life-affirming co-production with Octagon Theatre Bolton, which opens at the New Vic on Friday 3 February, running until Saturday 25 February.

Ladies’ Day, set in 2005 – the year Royal Ascot relocated to York for a season – tells the story of four women who swap their typical working day at a fish factory for front row at the races.

As part of the process of getting to grips with the play written by Amanda Whittington (Kiss Me Quickstep, The Thrill of Love), cast members Tanya-Loretta Dee, Annie Kirkman, Jo Patmore and Kate Wood, along with Director Marieke Audsley, and the New Vic’s Deputy Stage Manager Kate Wilcock and Marketing and Box Office Manager Pete Leverett made the trip to Wolverhampton Racecourse.

Ladies’ Day Director Marieke Audsley said: “We had a fantastic time at the races. It was wonderful to experience the exciting atmosphere and to find out more about the racing world. We met some bookies, regular racegoers and some of the Wolverhampton Racecourse staff, all of whom were extremely helpful in answering all of our questions about the Sport of Kings.”

New Vic Marketing and Box Office Manager Pete Leverett added: “A huge thank you to everyone at Wolverhampton Racecourse for having us. I’m chomping at the bit to see this production, and I can already tell from my fabulous day out with the cast that it’s sure to be a winner!”

New Vic favourite Gareth Cassidy (Marvellous, The 39 Steps) also stars in the production.

Ladies’ Day takes to the stage at the New Vic from Friday 3 to Saturday 25 February 2023. Tickets are on sale now, priced from £20.00. For more information and to book call the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online here.
