Local schools joined forces over two packed days this week to perform an adaptation of Macbeth on the New Vic stage as part of the theatre-in-the-round’s partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
The New Vic is the Regional Theatre partner for the RSC’s Associate Schools Programme and Springhead Primary School is the Lead School Partner. Together they lead a community of schools using the Active Approaches to learning through Shakespeare developed by the RSC.
The aim of the programme is to develop literacy skills and give children the confidence to use and understand the rich language of Shakespeare, as well as giving teachers their own opportunity for professional development.
Schools taking part included Ellison Primary Academy, Baldwins Gate Primary School, Dove Bank Primary School, Harpfield Primary Academy and Parkside Primary School on Wednesday 5 July; and Springhead Primary School, Seabridge Primary School, St. Luke’s Silverdale Primary Academy, Hempstalls Primary Academy, Betley Primary Academy and Thursfield Primary School on Thursday 6 July.
Well done to all the schools for fantastic performances which were enjoyed by family and friends.
