It can feel like quite a challenge right now, trying to stay positive when things aren’t quite back to the ‘normal’ we’d hoped for yet. At the New Vic, we’re striving to keep as positive as possible and there has been lots to be positive about recently – we’ve made further progress with our refurbishment project, and our café is set to reopen on Monday 7 September. We can’t wait to see you for a cuppa and a catch up!
Meanwhile, our transformation continues…
It’s
been an exciting few weeks in our auditorium as Novus, our building
contractors, make headway on transforming our auditorium, ready for when we are
able to reopen our doors to audiences.
Our gorgeous new purple seats have arrived and have started to be installed.
The new balcony seating is now in place and it’s great to see the second row,
formally stool-style seating, matching the rest of the auditorium. This space
will offer audiences a more comfortable experience.
The stage has been removed, as has the wall surrounding the stage ‘trap’, and
ground level screed (a cement mixture) has been poured over the stage area, in
prep for the installation of our brand new stage. Much of the carpet has been
fitted in the space, and some floor areas have been raised to provide new
wheelchair positions.
Elsewhere in the building, our new toilets are starting to take shape. Our
lovely front-of-house colours are being translated to the bathroom décor, so
you can expect teal tiling plus the odd splash of orange and purple! Work
continues, so keep an eye on our website for further updates.
Welcome back to the café!
We are delighted that our café will be reopening to the public next month with social distancing measures. We can’t wait to welcome you all back.
From Monday 7 September, diners will be able to enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake in the welcoming surroundings of the New Vic again.
The café will initially be open on Mondays to Fridays, from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Tables are available to book in advance via an online booking service, which is live on the New Vic website here, or diners can just arrive at the theatre on the day.
Of course all social distancing measures will be in place and you can read all about them here.
We can’t wait to welcome you back through our doors in September. Until then, take care and stay safe.
