Audience favourites including Soul Brothers Syndicate, The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir , and The Bluejays will be making a return to the New Vic this autumn/winter season for the theatre’s newly announced programme of one-night events.
As seen on the Royal Variety Performance, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda brings Feed This Black Man Again to the New Vic on Wednesday 25 September. A revisitation of his first stand-up show Feed This Black Man 20 years ago, he’ll examine the differences between the way he thought life would be at his then-age of 22, and the reality.
Jazz vocalist and BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM broadcaster Clare Teal will return with her marvellous band celebrating the hits and hidden gems of the Great American and British songbooks, as well as contemporary covers and originals, on Monday 30 September as The Clare Teal Five take to the stage.
Master of his art, folk singer and virtuoso acoustic and slide guitar player Martin Simpson will bring his moving interpretations of traditional songs to the New Vic on Monday 7 October. Nominated 32 times in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, more than any other performer, his solo show will be a true treat for folk fans.
Celebrating 20 years together, The Puppini Sisters perform on Wednesday 20 November. Counting Michael Bublé and His Majesty King Charles amongst their fans, the band’s first album became the fastest selling jazz album of all time. This concert will look back over their career with their top hits, fan favorites, and a few surprises.
Also celebrating a big anniversary, festive staple at the New Vic, The Albion Christmas Band, visit on Wednesday 18 December to mark their 25th anniversary with a ‘best of’ concert. Featuring the combined talents of Simon Nicol (Fairport Convention), Kellie While (Albion Band) Simon Care (Edward II) and Ashley Hutchings MBE, it is described as a ‘guided tour through the Christmas customs of Britain’ with traditional English Christmas music, songs and readings, and is often a sell-out event.
This is followed up by The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir on Saturday 21 December, another incredibly popular act – which has been performing at the New Vic for well over 30 years! They call their New Vic gigs their favourite concert of the year.
The New Year brings with it The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, presenting the finest 1920s and ’30s classics from the likes of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and more on Wednesday 8 January. In this beautifully crafted new concert, they will perform a sparkling selection of their best-loved music and songs.
Cloudbusting: The Kate Bush Songbook on Wednesday 22 January will showcase stunning arrangements of Kate Bush’s back catalogue including Wuthering Heights, Babooshka, Hounds of Love and Cloudbusting. It’s a gorgeous opportunity to reflect on Kate’s intricate compositions and lyrical invention as well as enjoy her big hits.
If rock n’ roll is more your thing, The Bluejays have that covered on Wednesday 29 January, with an evening of back-to-back hits and vibrant vintage costumes. Expect lively renditions of the most loved songs of the 1950s and ’60s!
A runaway success earlier this year, Soul Brothers Syndicate are back by popular demand for not one but two nights in 2025! Storming onto the stage on Friday 31 January and Saturday 1 February to bring the story and sound of Northern Soul to life, it will feature Darrel Smith and Frida Touray, as seen on Northern Soul at the BBC Proms 2024 at the Royal Albert Hall.
Fairport Convention, appearing at the New Vic on Wednesday 12 February, have been entertaining music lovers for over half a century. Considered the band that launched folk-rock, these winners of the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, will perform a mix of songs from albums old and new.
Another class act, Paul Jones and Dave Kelly, lead vocalists and founder members of the now-retired The Blues Band, continue the legacy of the much-loved band with their acoustic set on Monday 17 February. An occasion to remember for any true blues fan.
Finally, there will be comedy from John Shuttleworth on Monday 24 February with Raise the Oof. A Radio 4 favourite, he’s back with more hilarious stories and songs performed on his trusty Yamaha organ (with built-in auto accompaniment!) celebrating 40 years in showbiz.
