New Vic Borderlines has presented a week’s worth of performances of documentary-drama Yizkor this month to mark United Nations Holocaust Memorial Day 2024 on Saturday 27 January.
Set in a Shetl in Eastern Europe, Yizkor follows the experiences of teenagers Ariella and Moshe between May 1939 and 1944 and gives audiences insight into a community all but wiped out as a result of the Holocaust.
Yizkor, directed by New Vic Borderlines Director Sue Moffat, was created from testimonies and diary entries of real teenagers during the Holocaust, and includes contributions from Val and Ibi Ginsburg, survivors of Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps.
An interactive discussion follows each performance, hosted by Aida Haughton MBE, UN Translator and a Bosnian war survivor, during which the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust 2024 theme Fragility of Freedom is explored.
A version of the production is available for audiences to watch online here and two performances of the production will take place on Saturday 27 January at the New Vic. More details here.
