NEW VIC BORDERLINES PRESENT NEW PLAY, VOICES FROM, AS PART OF UNITED NATIONS HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2025

20th January 2025

To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, New Vic Borderlines present a new play, Voices From, on Monday 27 January 2025.

Created through a partnership with Keele Institute for Social Inclusion, Professor Bulent Gokay and Dr Lily Hamourtziadou, researchers of the NGO Iraq Body Count, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Voices From is a creative exploration of conflict and peace through the eyes of children caught in history’s darkest moments.

Determined to amplify the voices of young people whose experience of conflict can at times be overshadowed, Voices From guides audience members through authentic stories of reflection and responsibility to present the lived experience of those affected by the Holocaust, the Srebrenica Genocide and current conflicts happening throughout the world and asks us all how, together, we can unite ‘For A Better Future’.

As part of the performance audiences will also have the opportunity to explore their individual role in creating peace by contributing to an art installation by Ukrainian artist Yuliia Holovatiuk-Ungureanu.

Director of New Vic Borderlines Susan Moffat said: “In a world full of conflict and hate, this piece reflects the experiences of children through historic conflicts up to the present day and their hopes for a better future. Featuring poems, letters, and diary entries from children experiencing various conflicts including the Holocaust, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Gaza and Ukraine, Voices From has been created through a partnership with Keele Institute for Social Inclusion, and Professor Bulent Gokay and Dr Lily Hamourtziadou, researchers of the NGO Iraq Body Count, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Audiences are invited to participate in a pre-show workshop delivered by displaced Ukrainian artist Yulia Ungureanu and contribute to her art installation ‘Lost Dreams’ which will feature as part of the backdrop to the performance.”

Voices From takes to the stage at the New Vic on Monday 27 January 2025 at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now, priced from £15.00. For more information and to book call the Box Office on 01782 717962 or visit newvictheatre.org.uk.
