This Saturday 3 September, Basford’s theatre-in-the-round will be swinging open its doors for a special Open Day to give families an opportunity to explore behind-the-scenes.
The free drop-in event, taking place from 10.00am to 4.00pm, offers an exclusive experience for people of all ages who are curious about theatre to get a glimpse into how shows are made at the unique venue.
It will be the first opportunity of its kind for the public to look behind-the-scenes at the New Vic following its major auditorium refurbishment in 2020.
Participants can take a self-guided tour taking in different departments including Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Costume, and the Workshop where sets and props are made. There will be a range of activities bookable on the day including an Open Rehearsal for Marvellous with New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins, Special FX make-up and Sound and Lighting demos, a Drama and Lighting workshop, and Props Store tour. This will be complemented by a selection of drop-in events including a New Vic quiz where participants will be in with a chance of winning a family ticket to this year’s Christmas show Alice in Wonderland.
The Open Day come as the New Vic celebrates its 60th year of theatre-making in Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
